WHY I DO THIS
Owner, Kayak Instructor and Guide
I represent Nigel Dennis Designs because, simply put, there is no finer sea kayak to go out into big water. These kayaks really are where art meets function on the water.
I currently hold American Canoe Association Coastal Kayak Level 4 Open Water and River Kayak Level 2 Instructor Certifications. I am also an Instructor Trainer Candidate, Coastal L2, Essentials of Kayak Touring.
I firmly believe in foundation skills: strokes & maneuvers, and safety & rescue. I have a genuine interest in providing my students with a solid foundation so they can get out on the water safely. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say I enjoy the rescues the most. "Let's get wet!" I emphasize team building, situational awareness, and the three Ws (wind, weather, water).

BRIAN "FISH" STEVENS
It is not often that we get the time or ability to pursue our passions. You are invited to paddle with a man who has found his passion and dedicates his life to sharing that “candy-bar” with others. From reading water dynamics, paddling protocols and etiquette to establishing and building on foundational kayaking skills, Brian invites you to join him in Southport, NC. Witness the majesty of the Atlantic from the lower Cape Fear River; between the storybook seaport village of Southport and the serenity of escapism of Bald Head Island, the Cape Fear provides passage for numerous vessels like tankers, cargo ships, ferries and sailing craft in a biodiverse hotspot of wildlife. With ebb currents often flowing up to 4+knots, you will learn that risks inherent to a marine environment are simply part of the seascape of learning and connecting decision-making seamanship and paddling abilities, building skills and boosting inner confidence. Brian is a BCU 4 Star Sea Kayaker, Level 1 Coach, as well as an ACA L5 Advanced Open Water Coastal Kayaking Instructor and an ACA L1 SUP Instructor. He has tasted and seen the beauty of these enticing waters…they called to him…are they calling to you too? Consider this a personal invitation to paddle with Brian; once you taste this candy-bar, you will want more.
