About the event
Are you ready to learn, practice, and refine self and assisted rescues in water that isn't flat?
Please join Randi Kruger, an American Canoe Association Level 4 Coastal Instructor, and Rob SanLuis, a Level 2 River/Level 2 Safety & Rescue Instructor, for a fun and wet morning on the Chesapeake Bay. This part of the Bay is perfect for introducing Coastal elements while minimizing risks.
Cost $25 per student.
A 30 minute rolling tutorial can be added for $25.
Please arrive before 9 am, launch at 0900. We'll be off the water by 12:30. During the morning we will progress from an easy sheltered environment to water that more closely meets the ACA's Level 3 definition:
"Course Location / Venue: Lakes or coastal waters with potential areas of exposure to mild wind and wave conditions, with constant access to safe landing and within 1.5 nm from shore:
10 - 15 knot winds
1 - 2 foot waves (chop) (0.3 – 0.6 meters)
1 - 2 foot surf (0.3 – 0.6 meters)
1 - 2 knots of current"
Please note that the above conditions do not need to occur simultaneously.
This class is entirely challenge by choice, i.e. students can chose to try as much or as little as they feel comfortable doing.
You will get wet. Rescues mean swimming.
Please bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and choose clothing appropriate for the weather. This class will occur rain or shine. The only thing that will keep us off the water is thunderstorms or severe flooding.
Low tide ~1010, High tide ~1515
You must WEAR a pfd, not just carry it.
